Sangria is such a colorfully intoxicating drink, and I’m not just talking about the alcohol. It’s beautiful, delicious and refreshing, making it a terrific choice for summer get-togethers. Save your quality red wine for another time - the cheap stuff works best here. Many thanks to Lori & Joel (once again) for supplying ingredients.

Cherry Slushies
August 8th, 2008 — Drinks, Snacks
It’s been super humid in Philly the past few days and my family’s finding it hard to stay cool. Today’s recipe is a perfect way to beat the heat. A semi-frozen concoction of crystallized juice and fruit, these slushies are true refreshment. Your kids will love inventing their own new and interesting combinations - we’re trying pineapple and mango next. If you forget to take the mixture out of the freezer in time, no worries. Simply scrape like a granita and you’ve made delicious homemade water ice. Or, if you have those great plastic popsicle molds, drop in some fruit, add juice and freeze for fabulous fruit pops. The sky’s the limit!

The easiest smoothies ever. Ready in two minutes flat and with only three ingredients: ice, juice and a can of fruit. Perfect as is - or throw in a splash of rum or vodka - and you’ve got yourself the perfect summer treat.
Yields four 8-oz. servings.
