Sauteed Bananas

Prepare yourselves, friends. The next several days I’m going BANANAS for Bananas! This dessert is truly divine. Fabulous on its own – or as an incredibly elegant dessert for company try it spooned over vanilla ice cream or slices of pound cake. Something so simple never tasted so good.

Serves 2.

SODIUM CONTENT: 6.1 mg per serving

INGREDIENTS

1 1/2 T. unsalted butter
1/3 c. brown sugar
1/2 t. pure vanilla extract
1 T. low fat milk
2 large ripe bananas, peeled and cut into 2-inch slices
1 T. finely chopped walnuts

DIRECTIONS

Melt butter in a skillet or small saute pan over medium-high. Once melted, add the brown sugar, vanilla and milk and stir until sugar has dissolved and a thick syrup forms, about 30 seconds. Add the sliced banana, tilt pan slightly so that the syrup slides to the bottom, then spoon syrup over banana continuously, warming the slices and basting 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and serve immediately, garnished with chopped walnuts.
