If you lived through the 1980s, you’ll likely remember this familiar commercial ditty:
Seneca, the first frozen apple juice, enriched with vitamin C.
Rich, delicious Seneca, sweetened naturally.
No?? Well. We DID watch a lot of TV at our house.. Anyway, for today’s dish I’m veering away from the standard recipe format to instead recommend a product I rediscovered this past weekend. SENECA APPLE CHIPS. We spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Vermont, and on Sunday’s last trip to the local country store, I spied a bag of Seneca Apple Chips hanging near the register. I had a vague recollection of having eaten them before, but not for a long, looong time. When I turned the bag over to look at the nutritional information, I was WOWED. Only 10 mg of sodium per serving! Needless to say, the bag was MINE, and I finished the chips on the car ride home. They were crisp and light, sweet but not overly so. Thin slices of real apple, peel and all, and with less fat than standard potato chips!
Fortunately, I won’t have to make the 8 hr trek to the Wardsboro Country Store to get my fix – and neither will you. They’re sold directly from the Seneca website. I highly recommend the Original (unflavored) Apple Chips I tried, but they also come in Cinnamon, Caramel, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, and Sour Apple flavors. ENJOY!
