Grilled Swiss Cheese Sandwiches

When it comes to cheese, Swiss is always a safe bet for those on sodium restricted diets. A local supermarket here in Philly (Pathmark) carries no salt added Swiss cheese slices; check your own grocery stores for availability. Any sodium free or low sodium bread will work fine here, so the sky’s the limit.

Serves 4.

SODIUM CONTENT: 150.8 mg per serving

INGREDIENTS

8 slices sodium free or low sodium bread
2 T. unsalted butter
8 slices Swiss cheese (check sodium content carefully)

DIRECTIONS

Heat a griddle over medium-high. Assemble four cheese sandwiches, then lightly butter the top slices of bread. Place a sandwich on the griddle, buttered side down. Gently butter the top slice of bread while cooking the bottom until golden brown. Gently flip the sandwich and cook until the second side is also golden brown. Remove from heat. Repeat procedure with remaining sandwiches. Serve immediately.
