Ginger Lemonade

There’s nothing so refreshing on a hot day as a glass of ice cold lemonade, and you just can’t beat homemade. In this recipe, the lovely flavor and aroma of ginger adds depth and sophistication to an already tried-and-true beverage.

Yields four 8-oz. servings.



SODIUM CONTENT: scant trace per serving

INGREDIENTS

1/4 c. minced fresh ginger (large thumb-size piece, peeled)
2 t. minced fresh lemon zest (zest of 1 lemon)
1 c. freshly squeezed lemon juice (juice of 7 lemons)
3 c. water
5 T. sugar

DIRECTIONS

Place the minced ginger and lemon zest into a small pitcher. Add the lemon juice, water and sugar, and stir well to combine. Place pitcher in refrigerator and allow mixture to steep at least 4 hours for flavors to fully develop. When ready to serve, fill four tall glasses with ice, pour lemonade over the ice, and serve.
